La levée du liège au cœur de notre vignoble

Cork harvesting in the heart of our vineyard

Recently, the groves bordering the vineyards of our cooperators have become the scene of a traditional and fascinating activity: cork harvesting . Under the summer sun, the cork craftsmen slip between the trees, their ancestral know-how in hand, to harvest this precious bark.

Cork harvesting is much more than just a harvest. It is a time when man and nature work in perfect harmony. Cork oaks, these majestic trees, offer their bark without suffering, in a regeneration cycle that lasts for decades. The first harvest takes place around the tree's 25th birthday, and then, every 9 years, the bark is renewed, ready to be picked again.

Why is cork lifting so important?

  1. Protection of Biodiversity : Cork oaks are home to an incredible diversity of fauna and flora, creating unique and precious ecosystems.
  2. Sustainability : Unlike other materials, cork is 100% natural, recyclable and biodegradable. Cork harvesting is a sustainable activity, respecting the cycles of nature.
  3. Superior Quality : Used mainly to make corks, cork guarantees the optimal preservation of the aromas of our wines, allowing them to age in the best conditions.

By lifting the cork, we perpetuate a thousand-year-old tradition, essential for our terroirs and our vineyards. It is a gesture of respect towards nature, a tribute to patience and craftsmanship. Each piece of cork tells a story, that of an oak tree that, silently, has contributed to the quality and authenticity of our wines.

Come and discover this wonder of nature and support an environmentally friendly practice, essential for the future of our viticulture!
