La taille de la vigne sur le Cru Collioure et Banyuls

Pruning the vines in the Cru Collioure and Banyuls

Every year, with the arrival of winter in the Collioure & Banyuls cru, the winegrowers undertake a crucial task: pruning the vines . During the vegetative rest period of the vines, the sap, like a precious reserve, descends into the trunk of the vine. This vegetative "pause" phase represents a key moment when the vine suspends all growth, devoting its efforts to saving energy for the seasons to come.

On the picturesque terraced plots, our winegrowers undertake the delicate operation of pruning the vine shoots. This strategic step aims to control the growth of the vines, thus avoiding any congestion of buds that could hinder spring flowering. Pruning is therefore a meticulous art, a careful preparation of the vine, playing an essential role in the quantitative and qualitative regulation of grape production.

Under the rays of the winter sun, Laurent Barreda, a passionate winemaker, accompanied by his faithful companion Django, sets to work on the task of pruning these magnificent terraced plots, enjoying a 360° panoramic view. On one side, the Mediterranean Sea, majestically unfolding under the overhanging gaze of the church of La Salette, and on the other, the majesty of the Albères massif.

The arduous effort of the winemakers who, with meticulous precision, sculpt the vine, shaping the landscape to welcome the spring renewal. It is a diligent but rewarding ritual, preparing the ground for a future abundance of grape clusters, imbued with the Mediterranean flavors characteristic of this unique region.

Thus, in front of this idyllic picture, the wine-growing tradition unites harmoniously with the natural beauty of this land, creating a visual symphony that celebrates the symbiosis between man and nature.
