Journée Mondiale de l'Environnement : La Gestion Durable des Eaux Usées au Mas Ventous

World Environment Day: Sustainable Wastewater Management at Mas Ventous

On this World Environment Day , we would like to highlight the efforts of our winery at Mas Ventous for responsible and sustainable management of its wastewater. Our site, which is completely autonomous in terms of effluent treatment, blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape, demonstrating our commitment to responsible winemaking.

Autonomous and Optimal Management of Wastewater

At Mas Ventous, the effluents from the cellar resulting from the various cleaning and winemaking processes are treated in our forced evaporation station. As for sanitary wastewater, they are handled by a non-collective micro-sanitation station.

The Effluent Treatment Process

The installation is first equipped with a screen and a compactor which capture the pieces and solids from the effluent.

Liquid effluents pass through two retention basins: a small basin of 2000 m³ and a large basin of 3000 m³, capable of treating up to 9,800 m³ of water per year. This volume also makes it possible to manage any contributions from external cellars.

Every two years, these basins are cleaned to remove accumulated sludge, a natural residue from the grapes. This sludge is also treated appropriately at Tubert Environnement. All solid waste is then sent to our local partner, Tubert Environnement in Elne, for environmentally friendly treatment.

A Forced Evaporation System

Our system uses lifting pumps to project water from the pools onto honeycomb panels. The water evaporates from these panels before falling back into channels to return to the pools, a closed circuit guaranteeing the efficiency of the process, even more efficient in hot weather or when the Tramontane blows.

This process, called forced evaporation, is particularly effective and ensures that no dirty water is released into the environment. In addition, technical installations in the pools allow the water to be stirred to oxygenate it and prevent bacterial proliferation.

Proof of Non-Toxicity and Respect for Nature

The presence of ducks, frogs and lush green grass around the ponds is evidence of the non-toxicity of our treated water. The residues, mainly highly diluted oenological products, have no negative impact on local flora and fauna.

In conclusion, our commitment to the environment is reflected in innovative and respectful wastewater management practices. On this World Environment Day, we are proud to share with you our efforts for sustainable winemaking and responsible management of our natural resources.
